Course Overview

This qualification enhances professional practice knowledge, understanding, behaviours, and skills in the children's care, play, learning, and development sector, targeting those in regulated childcare (under 8) and NHS children's services (0-19). It aims to equip learners for professional roles in childcare or health through three pathways: enhancing parenting skills, supporting Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN), or recognising and supporting Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

The course provides theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively support children and families, serving as a foundation for professionals seeking to excel and positively impact the well-being and development of children and families.
This qualification is practice-based and assesses learners’ knowledge and practice. It is designed for learners in work-based learning, further education and higher education.

This qualification provides progression for learners who have completed the Level 3 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development (Practice) qualification or QCF Children’s Care Learning and Development Level 3.
This course requires candidates to complete externally assessed assignments after taught sessions, including a portfolio and a project with written tasks, direct observation of practice, and a professional discussion. These assessments comprehensively evaluate knowledge, understanding, and practical skills in both mandatory units and the chosen pathway. This structure ensures candidates can demonstrate higher-level competence in the sector.

Please note there is a requirement to attend a day in college once a month.
The qualification allows learners to progress within their employment or further study at a higher level.
